Carrie Fisher, a local Toronto artist has teamed up with the New Leadership Division of Reena Foundation, a dedicated group of young volunteers committed to improving the quality of life for those with developmental disabilities, to help raise much needed funds for Reena Foundation. She is doing this by allowing Reena kids to express themselves through art.
The visual arts program at Reena provides kids with the opportunity to develop their artistic potential by using creativity and imagination. Kids work with instructors to explore perspective, patterns, texture and colour.
With Ms. Fisher’s guidance, Reena kid’s will create masterpieces that will then be sold at the Reena Foundation’s 5th annual Not Just Another Saturday Night taking place at the Academy of Spherical Arts on Saturday March 21, 2009. Custom calendars displaying the works of art will also be sold at the high profile event which consists of a cocktail reception, live entertainment and an exciting raffle.
Proceeds from both art sale and calendars will go towards Reena’s Respite and Enrichment Programs. Respite and Enrichment Programs are a vital “life-line” to families trying to cope with the 24/7 demands of care for those with developmental disabilities. At the present time, government does not fund these programs that today service over 800 individuals.

“Painting with the Stars” is scheduled for Tuesday February 24th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Toby and Henry Battle Developmental Centre located at 927 Clark Avenue West in Thornhill, Ontario. All NJASN committee members and members of New Leadership Division of Reena Foundation are invited to take part.
